Traditionally Mandheling Blue Sumatra is a regional blend of coffees from Gayo (in the Aceh region of Northwest Sumatra) and other Coffees from North Sumatra including the area of Lintong. This particular Sumatran, called Menagold, is a blend from both the Aceh and Lintong highlands and is grown at altitudes between 1300-1500 meters above sea level. Grown by over 323 smallholder farmers who work closely and exclusively with the milling company who meticulously analyse everything and put the quality first. The ripe red cherries are selectively picked, hand sorted, wet-hulled and dried before being delivered to Medan-Aceh for further processing. For us the quality was evident from the moment we opened the sacks. The vivid greenish-blue hue of the beans prior to roasting (which give the coffee its name) was striking and this was an indication of how great it was going to taste in the cup. Suitable for all brewing methods and great with or without milk. Wonderfully smooth, with notes of dark chocolate and a sweet finish, Sumatran coffee has never tasted better.
