The Serra de Mantiqueira is a mountain range that stretches across the states of Sao Paolo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro. Located in Minas Gerais. the Mantiqueira de Minas area was the first to get a geographical indication in the Brazilian coffee industry. This approach, akin to ‘terroir’ in the wine industry has redefined how people view speciality coffee from Brazil. Mantiqueira has a reputation for growing Yellow beans and the epitome of this is the Yellow Bourbon which is grown much higher than their other varietals at altitudes of 1000-1400 MASL. A number of farms that contribute to this regional blend have won the Cup of Excellence and this is certainly evident in the taste. Notes of caramel and chocolate are followed by a hint of lime and peach on the finish. Suitable for all brewing methods and is equally good with milk or on it’s own.
