Sulawesi Kalossi Toraja is a rare and unique coffee grown in rich volcanic soils around Mount Sesean on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia. The coffee is cultivated in small home gardens by about ten families belonging to the Toraja tribe. The Toraja represent one of the few independent ethnic groups in the Sulawesi highlands who have managed to maintain their distinctive cultural identity reflected in their language, social rituals and religion. Correspondingly, the coffee itself reflects the individuality of their culture. The coffee varietals grown by the Toraja have nearly disappeared from mainstream coffee cultivation due to their smaller yields. All cultivation, crop harvest and processing are completely manual and resemble a historical form of private coffee production. An unmistakable aroma with an intense body and a smooth finish make this coffee a delicacy which need to be tasted. It exhibits a rich, full body, well-balanced acidity and is multi-dimensional in character. It has cocoa and herbal undertones with a complex character that includes spices and toasted almonds.
