Cafe Granja La Esperanza was started in 1930 growing just the traditional Typica coffee varietal. In 1945 three more varieties (Yellow Bourbon, Red Bourbon and Caturra) were introduced and over the years the family have introduced many more including the rare and much sought after Geisha. In the 1990s they began to experiment with different kinds of processing and have now expanded to five farms under the Granja La Esperanza umbrella. They have become experts in matching processes to varieties in order to produce unique flavour profiles. This particular example is the farm's main output and is a field blend. It contains both classic varietals Caturra and Colombia and also the newer Mandela. In the cup this coffee is soft and rounded with notes of berries, brown sugar and milk chocolate. Suitable for all brewing methods, this coffee holds up well to the addition of milk but is equally delicious served black.
