Description
Utamagro set up a cooperative for coffee farmers in Aceh called Koperasi Utamagro Tani Gayo. Utamagro Tani Gayo engages youth from the district, who come from all backgrounds and experiences. The founders wanted to form a youth initiative within the co-op to address the lack of economic opportunities for young people in the area so they can then learn how to grow and process coffee. They use the traditional Sumatran method of processing coffee known as Giling Basah which involves hulling the coffee whilst it is at 50% moisture rather than the usual 10-12%. This results in a very distinctive flavour profile only found in Sumatra, deep rich and chocolately. When roasted full medium and dropped out at just before the second crack this flavour profile is enhanced leaving a full bodied brew with a wonderfully fruity finish. A great coffee for after dinner, suitable for all brewing methods.
